Tomu Sushi: the best sushi place in KW

We were very impressed by Tomu. (We’ve gone to Ye’s and Yummyaki, none of these compare to Tomu. Sakura Island is not bad.)

My in-laws were in town for five days. They had maki rolls before (the usual california roll etc.) but not sashimi. We didn’t want to take them to an AYCE place, for several reasons (in case they didn’t like sashimi, we would end up eating too much…). My student (who gave me the granola bar recipe) suggested Tomu and she said was the best sushi place in KW. I agree!

What we ordered:
Medium Love Boat $42.95
Green Dragon Roll (8 pcs) $11.95
Chicago Roll (8 pcs) $11.95
Spider Roll (8 pcs) $11.95 – I love the soft shell crabs!
Shrimp Tempura $5.95
Vegetable Tempura $4.95

The love boat had a nice assortment of sashimi, enough for 6 people. I was happy because they had butter fish! The sashimi was fresh and delicious!

The rolls were huge! (Not the traditional size, for sure!) The three rolls were enough for the 6 of us.

We were slightly disappointed with the shrimp tempura but our fault for not reading the menu carefully. It said “2 pcs of battered shrimp with assorted vegetables”. We thought it would be all shrimps.

I was impressed by the different vegetables in the Vegetable Tempura appetizer – cauliflower, asparagus, broccoli, onion, sweet potato, green bean, squash… YUM!

Soups and salads were included.

Definitely a place we would go back to! The in-laws enjoyed their sashimi experience (and chopstick-using experience!), the two friends of my father-in-law kept complimenting this place. We all left with happy stomachs.

  1. I’ve been twice and have to agree: it’s the best Japanese restaurant in town. Mark and I got one of their combo meals for two (~$40) and ended up taking home almost two full dishes that lasted us for a few lunches as well! Definitely somewhere I’m looking forward to going to more often once we move closer to Waterloo.
